Abstract

The aim of this research is to verify the use of waste mineral wool in dry mortar mixtures. In our experimental work, recycled waste mineral wool, produced by milling or grinding insulation boards at the end of their life cycle, was used as an addition to two kinds of lime plasters. The impact of adding waste mineral wool at 10 wt. % of dry mixture on the final properties of lime plasters was investigated. Adding waste mineral wool in either form caused a decrease in compressive and flexural strengths, however, a promising potential was identified in terms of adhesive strength and thermal insulation properties. The results of the experimental work show a potential of using this kind of waste materials as an alternative to conventional natural raw materials used in dry mortar mixtures.
